Since July of 2010, Friends of DeKalb Animals has rescued, vetted and transported over 3000 animals to safety with our pre-approved rescue partners in the northeast. This would never have been possible without a reliable transport vehicle large enough to transport at least 30 companion animals on each transport. Our most recent transport vehicle (pictured below) is no longer reliable for these long haul trips. We are currently working to repair a diesel Sprinter van that we used in the past just to get moving again in February but it is not large enough for our needs. We priced a new vehicle specifically built for what we do and it was $210,000!!! While that would be wonderful, we are not able to live with how many animals we could save with that amount of money, and how many would die while we work to raise it. We are working to raise the funds to purchase a gently used, 2012 or newer diesel shuttle or bus type vehicle with sufficient heat and air conditioning and hopefully a back up generator. We are working to raise $75,000 to $100,000 to purchase the vehicle.
Begging is not something that we do well or easily! We don’t believe in dragging out sob stories that pull at the heartstrings of animal lovers to get donations. Our supporters have always come through for us because they know we do what we say, and we do it on a shoestring.
